Kryštof Brůha
artist, researcher, educator
Is a Czech transmedia artist whose practice operates at the intersection of material ontology and digital space. Through algorithmic networks, generative design, and post-industrial techniques (machine learning, 3D printing, and CNC fabrication), he reconstructs the invisible dynamics of systems—ranging from the microprocesses of the natural environment to abstract data flows. His kinetic objects, generative videos, and works in the field of expanded cinema function as intermedia interfaces that translate techno-ecological metamorphoses into multisensory compositions.
Since his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU)—which included study stays at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) and the Indonesian Institute of the Arts—he has exhibited in both galleries and site-specific spaces, ranging from the Regional Gallery Liberec and PLATO Ostrava to the Artefin Gallery in Prague, Lisbon’s Artemis Gallery, and the Leal Rios Foundation. His experimental films Prolog k Signum Supra and Resonare de INTER Solaris (screened at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival) expand the documentary format into algorithmic audiovisual essays. He is a two-time recipient of the Graphic Art of the Year Award (2019, 2021), a laureate of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award (2023), and the winner of the Signal Calling competition with his work Audire Fluctus (2024), which transforms the urban electromagnetic footprint into a data totem.
Inspired by concepts ranging from Timothy Morton’s hyperobjects to posthumanist aesthetics, Brůha’s work constructs an archaeology of the future. Rather than offering a passive commentary, it acts as a performative gesture, recoding the abstract forces of the present into the language of radical imagination.
