CONCEPT

Audire Fluctus — Velamen is an epistemological device worn as a garment. The three-layer structure operates as an ontological filter: the metallized outer layer creates a Faraday cage — a space of electromagnetic protection in which the body becomes temporarily invisible to network infrastructures. The middle detection layer, however, undermines this shelter: sensors capture surrounding electromagnetic activity and translate it into a sound palette. The wearer thus becomes simultaneously protected and receptive — a hidden observer who hears what usually remains below the threshold of perception.

The name Velamen (Latin for cloak, veil) denotes the dual nature of the work: as a protective cloak against technological exposure and as a veil that both conceals and reveals. The garment is not a passive medium but an active co-creator — its sound component changes according to the environment, each step modifies the texture, each change of position opens a new layer of the electromagnetic terrain. The body becomes simultaneously interpreter and instrument, composer and listener.

The concept of technological immunity here is not a rejection of technologies but a reflexive distance — the possibility of stepping back from the network in order to recognize it anew. The Faraday principle does not block but filters: while the outer layer shields external fields, the middle layer selectively allows them through. This paradox — being simultaneously inside and outside, protected and exposed — forms the core of the work.

In the context of the performance at Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Week 2019, this principle was applied in full measure. The space of OD Kotva — a department store saturated with technological infrastructure — became an invisible orchestra whose score the garment decoded in real time. The performer moved without choreography; the structure emerged from an improvisational dialogue between body, material, and electromagnetic field. In the fashion show, Audire Fluctus — Velamen thus represented not merely an aesthetic object but a performance of technological vulnerability — a moment when the body reveals its dependence on infrastructure while simultaneously acquiring the ability to perceive, map, and critically reflect upon it.

The work thus explores the relationship between the body, the electromagnetic spectrum, and the architecture of hidden processes that define contemporary environments. It is not protection against technology but a new regime of perception — a way for the body to exist within the network without being fully subsumed by its logic.
