Inter Solaris

Kinetic sculpture / solar apparatus. Laser-cut aluminum, Fresnel lenses, neodymium magnets. Result is a series of thermally transformed rocks.

SeriesInter Solaris
ID2019-IS-KS-01
Date of origin26.5.2019
TechniqueKinetic sculpture / solar apparatus
DimensionsApparatus: 2000 × 1800 × 700 mm. Artifacts (rocks): variable
DurationPerformative event / Site-specific action. Duration variable depending on solar conditions
SoftwareCAD software (Autodesk Fusion 360) for design and structural optimization
HardwareAluminum construction, optical Fresnel lens (1.5m), N52 neodymium magnets, local rocks (basalt, magnetite)
Data sourceDirect flow of solar photon energy. Data modulated by environmental factors: altitude, atmospheric turbulence, humidity, cloud cover, time of day
InteractionEnvironmental and performative. Apparatus interacts directly with Sun and atmosphere. Artist as curator and operator: selects location, time, rock, and collects resulting artifact

CONCEPT

Inter Solaris functions as a solar analog recording device: a Fresnel lens concentrates sunlight into a thermal focal point, melting local rocks and inscribing an indexical trace of a specific place, moment, and atmospheric conditions into them. The resulting artifact (rock) is a techno-fossil — physical evidence of non-human solar labor, recorded by the apparatus.

The rock serves as a medium with a triple role: a physical trace of place (site-specific), a record of energy (thermal transformation), and the resulting artifact of the entire process.
